Gordon Setters Net Room

Net Room for Gordon Setters Lovers

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove all of the cockleburs & tangles that are picked up while hunting? My husband just wants to cut away all of our Gordons hair, I however, love the look of our Gordon & am willing to spend hours removing cockleburs after the hunt to save his lovely look. I do use a cream to slick up his hair which does seem to help some. I also use the brushes recommended for removing tangles & cockleburs. I mainly have issues with the ears. Are there any ear wraps that can be used?

I use Seabreeze oil (Plush Puppy) to help remove the burrs but any vegetable oil would probably do. I just spray it on and leave to soak for a while and then remove them with a comb. This also prevents the hair from breaking and matting. You could probably put the oil on before going out as well. The only problem is that the coat is quite oily after this.... The horse shine spray sounds good too.

I spray my dogs before working. I also use a horse mane and tail spray, but mix in some baby oil and/or Cowboy Magic. I also use Cowboy Magic when grooming to get out any burs, You only need a tiny bit and rub it into the coat.

Just have to share this photo with you! There was a pheasant at the other side of a hedge - he was on a lead, so I got dragged through the hedge also! He did a lovely point though! Took 3 of us 1/2 an hour on disentangle him!

What a sight! That must have been fun combing him out. I wish I would have taken a picture of Briley's mess from last Sunday. He wasn't quite as bad looking as this, but I spent about 45 minutes just on his ears!

He is quite the sight in this photo, But, he did find and point that pheasant. Bravo for him!! You must be quite proud of him.

I usually put a protective coat on my boy before we enter the field. Yes, I know he doesn't look quite so dashing in his flouresent orange, but it does reduce the amount of grooming time when I arrive back home.
As Maggie said below, spraying them with a cooking spray before they go out works well, but you are probably looking at giving them a bath upon their return. I too have had some success with Cowboy Magic, but have had equal success with lathering on a cheap hair conditioner to the affected areas to slicken it up and assist in removing the burrs.
Good luck

LOVE THAT PHOTO!!! I use Cowboy Magic detangler as well and also use their Super Shine when grooming as it leaves the coat really silky which makes the burrs slide out easier. They also do a Green Spot spray which is good when our little darlings roll in fox muck!!

Hi everybody,

where can I get the Cowboy Magic?
As I really have problems with it, as well.
One of my boys lost a lot of coat because he was used for hunt this autumn every day and came back with that tangles and burrs everytime and it took us hours taking them out, but the coat is very less then it has been befor because of it.

Maybe you can give me some links with Conditioners, Cowboy Magic etc?
THANKS A LOT
